as i drove
down
the empty highway
i witnessed
a murder
hovering
over the barren fields
circling
in preparation
of a meal
or so
i assume
the quiet drive
filled
with sudden
apprehension
as the black eyes
stared
with menace
at something
on the cold ground
far below
then
en masse
they swooped
a small rabbit
clutched
in the murderous
talons
as they flew off
as one
to feast
upon the tender flesh
of youth
i watched
in appreciation
at the smooth
strike
i witnessed
a murder of crows
and what
i can only guess
was the murder
of a little bunny
i kept my eyes
forward
after that
afraid
i was
an unwilling
witness
to the savage beauty
of nature
My cat murders little bunnies every spring 😦
