left to wither

you
forgot yourself
in my shadow
as i became thought
you
shared the silence
of nothing
when death
was in vogue
rattling chains
in the solitude
of never

i
was the storm
shaking the windows
of the temple
you
knelt in supplication
within
lost in prayer
in that quiet moment
you and i
became
we

as i
sputtered lungfulls
of brackish water
dying
you
lazed about
with freshly painted toes
and a come hither stare
we fractured
into an unnatural state
of you and i
again
