the desert in her eyes

i let myself
be swept along the currents
of this invisible sea
never afraid of drowning
as the coral of loves gone ashen
slice the softer pieces
into a slurry
that calls the sharks to feast.

dragged face down
through the desert in her eyes
parched
from lack of reciprocation
longing for my lungs
to fill with fluid
for black eyes
roaming in the dark.
