
i stood, lost in the simple beauty of the bell tower and wondered if the bells still rang. on cue, as if god heard my thought, the bells rang one time, crisp and clear into the chill afternoon air. it was 12:30, divinity was foiled again by routine. i did jump, startled at the sound, and a lady in a car not only saw the shudder, but laughed. i did too.
