expected to handle

induced her
vertiginous rejection.

he didn’t quite
understand
and for too long
he continued
to seek a spot
in the light
she shined on
everyone else
unaware he was
just a shadow
lost in the dark.

one day the world
will see exactly
what it was she
couldn’t find
inside his broken
and with that comes
the understanding
some hearts are
abominable wrecks
best left buried
in the siltbanks

accumulated failures.
