who connect unerringly
to adam in an indian
call center filled
with adams calling
to make sure i am
fully covered

i have to answer
the calls i receive
anyone could be
a customer calling
and since i am usually
driving i don’t have
the luxury of verifying
before hitting accept
but the sheer litany
of adams whom i block
scam artists who prey
on the elderly
can be overwhelming

in the two hours
since starting work
there have been ten
spam calls answered by
a pleasant robot lady
and through petty spite
i answer her questions
to get on the phone
inevitably with adam
from medicaid services
and immediately i
offer him both medicaid
type a and b to supplement
his coverage with up to
two hundred dollars back
on his monthly purchases

they tend to hang up
i guess being bothered
while you’re trying
to get through work
by a piece of shit who
is just wasting your time
is universally loathed

i block at minimal
twenty new numbers a day
and it just gets worse
i tried being polite
asking to be removed
from the call list
they call back immediately
i decline the incoming
only for them to redial
i call back to find
the number cannot be
completed as dialed
there is no relief

so if you hear me
doing my best to sell
supplemental insurance
while talking over
the guy trying to sell
me supplemental insurance
you have my assurance
i am trying drive adam
totally fucking insane
the same way he and his
army of accented clones
are trying to fuck me
