he wandered the aisles of the store
no longer sure what he came to buy
and without any money to purchase anything anyway
he thought about stuffing it into clothes
that whatever it was he came to get
he was sure he’d remember
positive in fact
he came with a craving
grabbed a rotisserie chicken off the end cap and snacked upon the greasy corpse
nodding to children
smiling at the women
staring bewilderedly at the long rows of food he had never tasted
delicacies from foreign shores
his father wouldnt buy things that weren’t american
made in the states
but he hungered for distant shores
the carcass picked clean in his hunger
he set the bones and plastic and congealing grease on a shelf
what did he come for
didn’t matter
now he was full
and still broke
so he wandered until he found the exit
as he drove home he remembered he had come to buy a chicken for dinner
but he was no longer hungry and doubted he could fit one down his pants
so he went home instead
