magnetically challenged

chivalry is not dead

though i saw it offering sexual favors in an alley

open sores around it’s mouth

and looking decidedly sickly as the line between it and misogyny becomes blurry

life is not fair

it’s like working at a state fair

everyone around you is having an absolute blast

while you restock the stuffed animals and watch them eat drink and be merry

your shift ends right after the fun is over and all the corn dogs have gone cold

there are plenty of fish in the sea

but none that you know as well the one you lost

there’s the chance to get to know another

but it is an ever ending cycle of learning to speak a new language

and they have fish hook scars from the last time they were caught

become afraid of the wriggling worm on the hook and sudden suffocating feel of being yanked from home to an alien landscape

the sun will come out tomorrow

blinding and too hot

shining light on imperfections

removing the shadows and forcing hidden truth to the surface

luckily the sun will set this evening

every cloud does have a silver lining

but it is electrified

and there is always some greedy bastard looking to make a quick buck off precious metals

so while you search desperately for the good side

there’s a better than average chance someone has snagged it and is hoarding it for when they need it

believing it is better to have excess than spread the wealth

pithy little colloquialisms

trying to make the world less of a monumental beatdown with meaningless lines

when i was a kid i asked why everything was always so shit

my dad looked at me and said don’t worry about it

there is no reason to get caught up in how bad things are

it only gets worse from here

and then told me to get him a beer

so i decided to make my own saying to get me through the hard times

life is like a magnet

positivity attracts negativity and repels the positive

but negativity just breeds more

so don’t look for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow

after the government gets their cut

you’ll end up wishing you’d never found it as greedy hands come asking for the little that remains

there is no such thing as fate or luck

it’s all going to fall apart anyway

so don’t be that annoying bastard trying to make everyone happy

do what you can and try not to be a douche

that’s probably enough

  1. There are so many fierce and intense lines here! I realise that I am attracted to the outstanding word use in your writing.
” The corn dogs have gone cold” metaphorical magic! Your mind is a slide down brilliance on the way to where the sun refuses to shine! Bravo!

  2. Hey there! Looks as though we both used alleyways in our writing today. My alter ego was digging for words in the darker corners of my mind! Back to reading your post…

      1. Your mind is the great one! My mind seems to be failing at poetry, but my heart glows brighter every day!!☀️ And always will! And that is my contribution to our world. Never stop writing Mike, let your poetry speak to the world about what it truly feels like to be human!
