i will
never
make truly beautiful art
women
won’t
sigh
their hearts
won’t skip
a beat
their
breath catch
in their throats
at my words
i’ll never be
matisse
rembrandt
whitman
braugtigan
neruda
or
bukowski
my name
will
never be uttered
in hushed tones
but still i write
destined
to be
forgotten
van gogh’s other ear
would
have understood
my
feelings
I have to respectfully disagree:
“i will never make truly beautiful art
women won’t sigh their hearts won’t skip a beat their breath catch in their throats at my words”
Reading your poetry has made me sigh, cry, my heart skip, my heart to clench and pause, it has made me laugh and smile, and I’ve literally stopped breathing or said out loud ‘oh my!’. Your poetry, your stories, your heart are ALL beautiful works of art that I cherish and will treasure for the rest of my days. I can’t tell you how many times I have been touched immensely or sighed wishing someone would write those words for me. I look forward to the day I get to hold a book (or many hopefully) with the name Mike Ennenbach along the spine. You have touched me deeply.

I’m publishing under M Ennenbach. Not sure why, but I like how it looks.
And thank you for the kind words.

i love this.
one thing that keeps me going is that no one appreciated van gogh while he was living (except his brother)….i used to aim for the timeline of grandma moses but now i will be content with van gogh.
ps. your poetry is beautiful art. i don’t like much poetry–but i love yours.

as a secret, i don’t much care for poetry either. and i love your art so we can appreciate each other and take some small solace that someone out there gets us.

But once you are dead then who will remember? Not everyone will care. Simply fact, what moves you might be meaningless to someone else. We are stars and just like the real ones we will burn out and be forgotten.

it only takes one seed to germinate. touch a heart and you will always live on. this is sounding like a poem.

Huh? Is this the guy who writes down and out stuff 24/7? Did you wake up on the right side of the bed?

both sides are the wrong one, and I’m always waking up! Hahahaha. might have woken up to mania kicking in today.

You wanna know what is funny about your list of artists? Rembrandt is the only one on there that I have even heard of and just between you and me I am not a fan. These artists that you look up mean nothing to me. They probably mean nothing to most of the world. Even the most famous people on the planet will eventually be forgotten about. Even those who change the world will fade from the minds of everyone. The only hearts you will touch permanently are the ones who truly love you and I’m thinking more friends and family and not idol worship.

if I’m honest it was more about the title. it came to me and loved the image.
but i disagree with your end comments a bit. i have wept at the museum and while reading some things. some have moved me and stick with me to this day. it may be a different set for each reader but artists and authors and poets and musicians have power that isn’t idol worship. they tap a vein and influence long after dying. i hope one day to pen something that does that for one person. it won’t be beautiful, i don’t do beauty. maybe it will be an ode to depression. but something dammit.
