“toyGuitar – When It Was Over (Official)”

this is the song that helped me to visualize the short story, Rain.

if you have followed this rambling blog for long, my love of punk rock is pretty apparent. between it and jazz masters Ryo Fukui and Bill Evans, most of my prosaic prose gets written.

punk rock isn’t pretty usually. it can be. i have been moved to tears and felt the strings of longing and loneliness pulled by certain bands. when i discovered toyGuitar it was on a Fat Wreck Chords comp with the song Is It True?. i became a little obsessed with the album for a few months. it is just one of those quality rock and roll jaunts that comes along once in a blue moon. the fact that the entire thing was recorded by one man blows my mind as well.

this was two years ago.

the story, Rain, has been brewing far longer. i have started and stopped it a few dozen times over the last five years. never quite finding the rhythm and cadence. then last night in a span of two hours it fell out of my brain.

it was always about two things. love and ice cream. the face of the love changed over those years but the vanilla and Rocky Road stayed the same. originally it was a retelling of the biblical tale Job. it may still be in a sequel. who can say for sure.

but i ended up feeling pretty proud of the story and woke up today with this song in my head. sometimes it is fun to see how the bread gets made. sometimes it is fun to just eat the loaf drizzled with honey and butter while watching Fury Road (my go to depression movie). i just wanted to give you, my friends a chance to hear the song.

now cuddle up to the ones you love and eat some ice cream and make every moment count. tomorrow is not guaranteed. i will be here, alone, writing more odes in hopes somewhere out there someone has a better day.

love, me
