in the end of ends

he sits
if he vanished today
drifted off
with all the other
of forgotten time
would anyone notice
or would he just be
faceless shade
lost forever

he clung so tightly
to dream
that when it crumbled
to become nothing but
more sand
at the bottom
of the hourglass
he was left
with nothing
but half moons of blood
from clenching his fists
to try and stop
the fading hope

he doubts it mattered
that he mattered
that any of it
was more
than a blip
on the surface
of eternity
he cannot help
but wonder
at how painful it is
to see it all
fall apart
around him
