memory lame

what we had
the thing
that died
with barely
a twitch
just casually
slung barbs
a poisoned
monstrosity
mistaken for
genuine emotion
misplaced
mistimed
and missing
key elements.

it was a
shambling corpse
with a red
ribbon tied
around its
broken neck
lingering
far longer
in agony
than in any
real sort of
emotional
stability.

a catastrophe
at a nuclear
plant that
burned so brightly
all it left
was a shadow
burnt into the
bedroom walls
irradiating
our hearts
and minds as it
killed off
any aspect
of adoration
leaving ruin
in its wake.

we both wear
the scars
of this infernal
misdiagnosis
in the shards
of soulshatter
we left stabbed
in one another’s
hearts only to
misremember
how the wounds
were callously
carelessly inflicted
painshivers
clearly mistaken
for love.
