intent

my head
is filled
with
thunder
need
coffee
or a cordless
drill
to release
the demons.

the blinds
closed
the world
outside
nonexistent
except for
chatter
easily
ignored.

except for one
incessant
staccato
chirp
like an alarm
sounding
over
and over
and over
and over
until finally
i stagger over
turn the rod
open the blinds
to see
one fat sparrow
staring at me
now gone
silent.

i don’t know
if she was
concerned
the blinds
were
still closed
or if
she missed me
but
my money
is on
she was just
being
an asshole.

but as i
glared at her
i saw
the neighbor
kiss his wife
on the cheek
as her
lover snuck
onto the patio
one door shut
another
opened
and the second kiss
of the morning
carried
much more
passion.

maybe the sparrow
is the
neighborhood
gossip
keeping me
on top
of all the
juicy happenings.

i couldn’t say
with any
certainty
still do not
speak bird
but i am
learning
ever so slowly
to translate
intent.
