slugs

verily the words
seem coated in slime
slipping through
clumsy lips
to tumble to the ground
with a wet splat
slugs with razor
sharp coils of teeth
leaving nothing but
a fair trail of
innocuous snot
dripping off of
every failed line
it is cool today
with a threat of rain
the buildings sway
as the slugs and snails
wreak havok on
unsuspecting lines
of angrily sputtering
vehicles in single file
impudence under
gray skies with no
memory of the sun
as the invertebrates
feast on the many
sundered sorrows
hidden behind images
coated in slime
falling from numb lips
that seek the sanctuary
of her’s so far away
