slithering into oblivion

shedding scales
becoming
something less
than human
each line
another scar
on fresh
pink flesh
the sun warms
coldblooded verse
until it stirs
on the rock
inside my chest
some days
this snake
coiled into
the shape of
a heart
strikes out
venomous drips
the painful
lacerations
furrows dug deeply
into tenderness
welling up
with blackened
coagulation
an earthworm
so heavily and
callously scarred
a callus
written in cursive
down the memory
of happiness’s
last kiss
good night
a serpent with
no understanding
just instinct
brought on by
a life of pain
