every step
is hesitant
tapping thr toes
of my vans
against the ground
expecting to trigger
a landmine
standing breathless
waiting for a
trap door to open
plummeting down
into a pit of
sharpened stakes
i am a water balloon
filled to bursting
swaying on the
internal currents
of saline wishes
and electrified eels
any incidental contact
could send a spray
of fetid longings
to drown the land
in a flood of anxiety
waves of incoherent
worry magnified by
errant rays of light
a myopic dystopia
where wonder goes to die
