she sat
stuck in traffic
right behind me
and as i watched
in glimpses
caught in the mirror
she sang
her heart out
on the overpass
where 35 crosses
over to 75
i couldn’t tell
what song it was
just that she felt it
deep in her soul
and her sheer release
was wonderful
to behold
the world
would be a much
happier place
if everyone
drove around
singing at the top
of their lungs
instead of being
so concerned
with themselves
i turn up
the radio and
let the music
recharge my heart
as i sing
to the ever
present sparrows
an astronaut
in a failing meat ship
piloting over
a city of daydreams
waiting for the
weekend to begin
“Two years spent before the mast
And no one knows the secrets that we’re hiding
If word got loose, you’d face the lash…”
