singing

she sat
stuck in traffic
right behind me
and as i watched
in glimpses
caught in the mirror
she sang
her heart out
on the overpass
where 35 crosses
over to 75
i couldn’t tell
what song it was
just that she felt it
deep in her soul
and her sheer release
was wonderful
to behold

the world
would be a much
happier place
if everyone
drove around
singing at the top
of their lungs
instead of being
so concerned
with themselves

i turn up
the radio and
let the music
recharge my heart
as i sing
to the ever
present sparrows
an astronaut
in a failing meat ship
piloting over
a city of daydreams
waiting for the
weekend to begin
