Reactions to Cuckoo

an old fashioned donut, the beginning of a love story

this has been a rather emotional weekend. to say the reception for Cuckoo has been beyond my wildest dreams, is an understatement.

it came out Friday. i expected little. safe. it’s unique. my friends said to expect a slow burn. let people digest it. my expectations were low. they always are.

then it hit number 1 in American Horror new releases. i have had 2 poetry collections get the little orange flag in the past (two weeks prior for (un)broken). niche category for a dead art. that could be justified by a shallow pool.

over August, the press sent out copies for blurbs. i had read each and was honored by the kindness. but these are also people who have known me for a while. friends and acquaintances.

now the waiting game would begin until my inner circle wasn’t the only ones talking about it. and they used big words in their reviews and blurbs. genius. masterpiece. but again, for the most part, it was people i knew.

over the weekend, the first two reviews came in from the wild. i was not mentally prepared for them. still can barely make sense of it.

i am not sure if this is reality any longer. the slow burn has just begun and the praise in incomprehensible to me. i knew Cuckoo was special, to me. that it touched the people who read it for me. i never expected it would get this response.

thank you to those who have already got a copy. and to those who are considering it. i am working on my next novel now while this insanity goes on. and it is even better than Cuckoo, at least according to the readers. this is not a stopping point, despite the praise, this is where i show you how i am just beginning thks editing thing.

world domination isn’t a catchphrase. it’s a goal. a worthy one we may just achieve. i will keep writing, if you’ll continue to read it.
