i often
question
the perverse
entitlement
of humanity

how we have
framed our history
as the perpetual
heroic, yet tragic
underdog throughout
our history of
incomprehensible
bloodshed be it
for king or god

we crowned ourselves
sovereign over all
with little to no
understanding of
anything whatsoever

hairless apes who
developed shame and ego
into weapons of
mass coersion
a species that developed
psychological warfare
into everyday behavior

the complex root system
combined with a near
neural mycelium network
communicate beneath our feet
sharing nutrients and
signals of clear communication
yet it is silent and thus
lesserthanourconstantsquawking
as we stripmine it all for another
cookie cutter suburbian hell

how many other natural wonders
went unnoticed in our barbaric
need to prove inherent superiority
because we were so advanced
we refused to coexist with the world
when it was more profitable by far
to slowly strangle it

we don’t have a higher purpose
other than biological needs
to survive long enough to breed
we should have a moral imperative
to do our best to all succeed
while maintaining the only home
in the universe which will have us
yet we let delusions of grandeur
clouds the skies with toxic smoke

there are fish beneath the ice
in antarctica which developed
amino acids to contain the ice
which forms in their bodies
preventing them from freezing
in the sub freezing darkness
they provide the food source
for the penguins and seals
which call the ice sheets home
these fish maintain life for
an entire ecosystem through
centuries of biological change

yet we do nothing except make
the rich richer and the earth worse
sipping seven dollar lattes
and believing we were chosen to rule
