noah’s canoe

sorrow is a cardinal perched on the branches of my heart
joy the petals of a lily buried in the snow
love is an ostrich with it’s head buried in the sand
and madness is a lion stalking in the tall tall grass
hope is a mosquito buzzing ’round my ear
fear is a tick burrowed deeply in my brain
happiness a tasmanian tiger long since gone extinct
and loneliness is a virus that infects my every cell
i’m a walking menagerie, a stained glass refrain, another dead sea scroll lost to the ravages of time
noah’s canoe of lost creatures, despair keeps me afloat, the sea levels keep rising, reality an anchor around my leg
