hollow

these hands
belong
to a different person

these scars
from
another life

but
these
thoughts

this
self hatred
these doubts
they
remain
mine

smoke hangs heavy on the breeze, red and white lights flash as home burns, my home, my things just ash on the breeze, my memories faulty, my dreams in flame

the drink is smoky in my mouth, rolling over my tongue, heat blossoms and travels up my throat, to my limbs, heavy and light, distortions in the air around me

take this pain
leave
nothing
but
the hollow corpse
of
yesterday’s regret

  1. My first thought from reading this is when everything around us goes up in flame that is when we realize what is truly important and what isn’t. It’s like when you see people escape their burning house, which would suck in itself, but when they realize they have a family member still trapped inside then the house becomes irrelevant. I think pain is like a fiery blaze removing everything that is irrelevant. But once you understand, the pain will stop because it won’t have anything left to teach you.
