slam

she slammed the door with a crack like a sniper’s bullet through the heart

each subsequent slamming dealt further into the law of diminishing returns

how many times can a heart be shot before it

a) kills

b) becomes desensitized

there is a reason the arm goes numb during a heart attack, i try and tell her as she wheezes another woe is me sad song to catch the eye of potential suitors

one station plays love songs and another plays xmas songs and they wonder why no one listens to the radio any more

and still she slams the door like a shark that smells blood in the water but doesn’t know it has a cut on it’s nose and swims itself to starvation

my arm tingles from switching back and forth between songs as meaningless as the reason for the season

axial tilt

she rattles like the ghost of xmas present participle unknowingly making herself the lapsed ghost of soon to be past regret

i slip in my ear buds and let the holly jolly stylings of anything else take me away from this nuclear winter wonderland
