slumber

i sat
still
dormant

over time
reclaimed
by the world
i had sought
to vanish from

lush vegetation
clung
to my craggy slopes

still

i slumbered

then
unbidden

i was awoken

she came
laid her hands
on the sleepy soil

i tried
to ignore
that infusion
the gentle waves of wakefulness rippling across
my mind and heart

before i knew it

it was too late

soon
the earth was shaking
boulders toppled
great rents formed

no more slumbering giant
afraid of the world itself
closed off

no longer docile
a force
to be reckoned with
heaving great gouts of lava
across the land

you awakened this passion
one that erupts
for you alone
