slivers of mirror

the only girl he ever loved
was born with
slivers of mirror
for teeth

when she smiled
it cast a blinding glare
across faces
filled with horrific wonder
at the many scattered reflections
of the folly of fools
in love

as the trees turned green
and the bombs
rained down
from the many
circling planes

she had the snout
of a pig
deep set
all black eyes
pointed ears
and a voice
like nails
across the chalkboard soul
of serendipity

yet he found her

stunning

but alas
for the poor lad
the love
of a demon
is not for mortal kin

so he just watched
as she danced
among the burning bodies
that were scattered
across the town square
