poets are dying with every ignored word

every poem written
is a piece
of crumbling mortality
spat into the wind
to fall unread
across the page
the quill taps the soul
as it scratches
along the vellum
depleting the whole
in an effort to appeal
to a world
that stopped
paying attention
millennia ago
