snowy night in grand prairie

the silence
is smothering
as the snow falls
no cars driving
no planes above
everything is still

earlier it was
a symphony of sirens
as the rain fell
now there is nothing
but tiny crystals
slapping the window

i hear my heart
tapping out a serenade
in desperate thumps
sleep feels far off
as i long to lay
holding you closely

yet the silence
is smothering
while the snow falls
my heart guides
my cold fingers
across the screen
