oak lawn and wellborn

the lights cast
a haphazard strobe
faintly flickering
erratic static
in distilled discharging
of electrons in
accidental orbit of
a softly whispered
hint of dismay

every car that passes
shakes the slab of
reinforced concrete
making my car feel
like a ship tossed
on the stormy seas
shattering my reverie
as i seek the message
hidden in plain view

i used to blame the drugs
then i blamed my childhood
but all the blame falls
squarely on an imbalance
chemically and emotionally
making me seek portents
in every passing crow
from my perch by my prison
of silent pulsing lights
