every once in a while
i get to watch as a
car goes the wrong way
down the one way maze
of downtown dallas
they pull out of the
parking garage and play
on their phones and then
perform what usually
turns into a panicked
state of consecutive
wrong turns as the horns
blare a symphony of
condemnation booming
against the skyscrapers

today he pulled out
nearly side wiped the
rumbling garbage truck
pulled a u turn toward
the speeding train and
slunk back into the
shadows of the garage
now i sit patiently
watching for his return
wondering if he had a
change of pants or if
he will just park his car
abandon it for the city
and vanish in the alleys
a lost soul incapable of
reading the signage
forever afraid to drive
