we can keep that between us

i see
the stats jump
as stalkers
strive to steal
the embers of
my poetry

the sudden deluge
of familiar prose
lacking any of
the real meat
just facsimiles
losing depth
each time they
try to paint in
the ashes of art
they don’t understand
they only mimic
lacking the instincts
to see the real blood
tinting every word

i don’t believe
imitation is the
sincerest form
of flattery
i think it shows
a distinct desire
to be seen as more
than the nothing
they are capable of

i see the views
then read the scraps
and see how hallmark
made their fortunes
by taking creation
and sucking out
all the emotion

you will never grasp
the fluctuations
in the internal strife
rewriting someone else’s
personal expressions
but you don’t care
because you never had
an original thought
nor any ability to
properly denote them

  1. The influx of bot accounts here is getting to be overwhelming. Especially when you know your work was run through ai to change it, then posted back somewhere else. I won’t share my work anymore. I’m only going through magazines and other publishers. Whatever doesn’t get published, I’ll post.

    1. i understand that. i have mine coming back out into print soon. i wish it were all ai though. i see it brazenly posted on FB, the same but empty. it’s so weird getting ignored publicly so the imitation seems like legit creation. it’s okay. i never expected much more than to hopefully inspire other poets. wish it weren’t the ones who only want attention though.

      1. I’ve found the same to happen with me as well. Especially in writing groups. It was too weird, seeing everyone ingest and digest then crap out what I wrote. Someone of it made me really mad. I spent months working, reworking, revising, all without ai. Just for “they know who they are” to reuse my work. I agree it’s cool and actually neat to see how your work influenced others… But to use it without a, “hey I’m going to use this in something, is that okay?” It’s just petty theft… To feed the industries. Thing is, I wouldn’t be mad if they’d asked or at least let me know it was their inspiration. Bots and industry ghost writers, I’m sooo annoyed with them. I agree though… The PEOPLE harvesting others work, really make me question my whole premise of building resilience to save humanity. Lol.

        1. But on the flip side, there are times where I’ve written things (100% from my head) in a creative way, then found others had said nearly the same thing centuries ago… or sometimes years, or months, or days before. There’s always the possibility we’re all plugged into the zeitgeist and our symbolism and messages echo the eon. Who the heck knows? Best of luck, I hope you find a solution to the growing issue. -Tansy
