then i’ll see you in hell

is there a way to detect when a spell has been cast upon a soul

ensnared it and threatens to consume

the last couple times i tried to give my heart away ended in abject failure

so i fastened chains around it and tossed it into the freezer to think about what it had tried to do

and escape the possibility of it seeking refuge with anyone else

but i’ll be damned if the siren song of wondrous words didn’t somehow undo the triple padlocked titanium chains

remove the thorn of ash driven solidly into the hollow atrium

and lead it back into temptation

that was not in the grand plan

the grand plan stated allow the general malaise of atrophy and fade into dust alone and screaming

so it must be a spell

some wiccan or voodoo or black dark magic

a coven or an ancient evil awaken by the blood moon eclipse

stalking the silent night and casting with evil intent upon the hapless fools with open wounds susceptible to the call of danger

forcing hunger

making them seek that which should not be sought out

heeding the call of divine similarity

opening the floodgates of interest to feed into flames long since dormant

so i ask

is it possible to detect if magic has been cast upon a foolish heart to make it yearn for beauty again

asking for a friend

an acquaintance

for the desperate scared eyes reflected back

all this will do is lead me, him, back into the depths of hell and i, he, knows this

yet the fool persists

i tell him to stop, to give up fleeting dreams

he stares at me and he smiles and whispers from mine own lips

then i’ll see you in hell

  1. Iโ€™ve tried similar things… although not a freezer yet. ๐Ÿค”
Oh foolish heart! Listen when I say you must stay here with me! I will keep you safe. Donโ€™t fly away again. Please. Iโ€™m not sure I can go searching for you again. You remember last time, I said โ€˜donโ€™t goโ€™ and you did and he took you and squeezed you and kissed you and shredded you and there you were lying trampled beneath his calloused heel while I cried and shouted and wailed and carefully lifted you up and covered you in mud and clay and held you close and together we swore this armor would serve as a reminder… which you seem to have forgotten yet again.

    1. if that didn’t strike so close to home i would say something vapid about it getting better. but since i refuse to lie to you – it’s probably going to happen again if past experience is indicative of future results.

MIKE, when I was 21, I had a bumper sticker on my car which read “Lead me not into temptation for I will find it myself”. Oh my mom and dad were on me about that! Point…I don’t have one!๐Ÿ˜‚
