she sat
on the trash
like the mermaid
of the dump
watching the wind
blow garbage
across
the dusty land

oh siren

of the municipal waste
did you imagine
this was how
your life
would eventually
turn out

once the prettiest girl
in her class
now the trackmarks
run down her arms
like
all the promises
made
beneath the bleachers
