i write to you
in poetry
because the words
would stick
in my throat
if i tried
to say them
out loud
i write
to the world
in poetry
because
the feelings
are more
than i can leave
bare in the light
i write it all
in metaphors
so it muddies the waters
between lip and eyes
to maintain
a modicum
of dignity
in these trying poetic times

Easier to say things in metaphor. To say everything you need to say… without saying it. Hoping anyone… someone… sees the real words underneath. Yep. I’m right there with you on this. As a doomed romantic, my hope is to one day find someone special you is able to decode the poetry. And then not hate me for it.
