circumventing perspective

i suppose not every little thing is a matter of perspective

suffocating from lack of oxygen at the top of the world

or drowning in a kiddie pool

either way it goes you’re still just a rotting corpse

i guess the cold air up high would preserve you better

and the toddlers and the urine and the stray dogs would make a mess of you in the pool

but dead is dead is dead is dead

dying from a broken heart or lung cancer or insanity or a car accident

doesn’t really do a damned thing for your perspective when they sew your eyelids closed

or that slow roast at fifteen hundred degrees turns bone to ash

but the perspective of the pigeon shitting on your shoulder is better than that of the pigeon that doesn’t see the window

hollow bones and vacant eyes

in the end we all end up boxed up like take out from the chinese restaurant

some just have fancier lids

the bards say it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all

but is it

he who has never loved has never sat staring at the phone

jumping up at every car door

frantically refreshing the screen

no

he just goes on with his life

maybe he doesn’t smell the roses or appreciate the sun rising in the east

but when he pays the pimp he gets some action and then goes home to peace to read or watch a show or whatever the hell he wants

at worst a shot of penicillin

maybe gets a wart or two frozen off

but compared to falling hard and getting the boot

losing the only thing that brings joy and happiness in an unforgiving world

picking up the shattered pieces of his world as the sun leaves the building

nope he just has to deal with a burning as he pisses

drink some cranberry juice

right as rain

old vincent could have kept his ear if he’d not drank the kool aid

romeo could have lived off his inheritance and married some nice girl from the country

died at ripe old age

some things need perspective

some things just suck

up to you to decide which way you’re looking at it

half empty or half full

it’s another dish to wash in the morning
