they say
you never really fail
if you tried
your best
but tell that
to my bank account
as it goes
overdrawn again
it is hard
not to lose faith
in your ability
when all
you’re able to do
is beg
for scraps
which is no ability at all

your best

to my bank account

So little to do with the individual and the measure of ability or success or failure and more to do with a screwed up societal structure. But then what do I know?

‘If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools’ – Kipling

I wrote something the other day that had the line ‘does failure dream of me?’
I’m sure that in the end I will look back on my life with a lot of regrets. But trying to find people with my words will not be one of them. Regardless of how it all turns out.
